The 20th International Symposium on Environmental Biogeochemistry marks the 40th anniversary of the biennial symposia. This milestone emphasizes not only the rich legacy of biogeochemistry, but also the continuing scientific and societal importance of the field.
The theme of this landmark symposium, “Frontiers in Biogeochemistry”, provides a focal point for discussion on cutting-edge interdisciplinary research in biology and geochemistry that range from the molecular to global scale. For example, relevant subject areas include metagenomics, biosignatures, reactive transport, cave ecology and dark-life, extreme environments, ocean-land-atmosphere coupling, global change, and astrobiology.
A unique feature of ISEB meetings is the absence of concurrent sessions. This format promotes a high degree of interaction between participants, and fosters development of international research collaborations. In this context, young investigators and graduate students are especially encouraged to attend.
On behalf of the Local Organizing Committee and the Executive Board of the International Society for Environmental Biogeochemistry, I am honoured to invite you to ISEB 20 in Istanbul, Turkey.
