Background

The International Symposium on Environmental Biogeochemistry (ISEB XIX) returns to Germany after a hiatus of 32 years. It was at the ISEB III in Wolfenbüttel back in 1977 where scientists working in the field of environmental biogeochemical cycling reconfirmed once more the efforts of this society. The last 18 meetings were a huge success. The conference in 2009 in Germany will bring together the scientific expertise on impact of climate change and human activities on biogeochemical cycling. Innovative results will be shared within this long-term interdisciplinary forum to improve sustainable development.

Proposed Topics

(1)           Global change and biogeochemical cycling

(2)           Human impact on biogeochemical cycling

(3)           Interactions between environmental spheres
(atmosphere, soil, aquatic systems and subsurface)

(4)           Processes in terrestrial vs. aquatic ecosystems

(5)           Soils as biogeochemical interface

(6)           Nutrient and energetic efficiency

(7)           Biogeochemical qualities

(8)           Adjustment characters to extreme conditions

(9)           Economic and social aspects of environmental biogeochemistry
